In 1958, Arne Jacobsen designed the Egg for the lobby and reception areas of the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. This organically shaped chair has since become synonymous with Danish furniture design throughout the world. Because of the unique shape, the Egg guarantees a bit of privacy in otherwise public spaces, and the Egg – with or without ottoman – is ideal for lounge and waiting areas as well as the home. At the end of the 50’s Arne Jacobsen designed the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which introduced the Egg, the Swan, the Swan sofa and Series 3300 to the design world. Arne Jacobsen was and is an admired and outstanding designer. His furniture and other design work have become a national and international heritage. The Egg originated in Arne Jacobsen’s garage – cast in plaster. Today the synthetic shell is padded with cold foam and covered with fabric or different types of leather resting on a star-shaped aluminium base. The shell of the Egg is of polyurethane foam with fiberglass reinforcement. The shell has an adjustable tilt which can be adjusted to the weight of the individual user. The base consists of a satin-polished, welded steel tube and a 4-star base in injection molded aluminium. The Egg may be upholstered with fabric or leather and is also available with an automatic return mechanism.

Modern Bubble Chair Design

Modern Bubble Chair Design is designed by Eero Aarnio. EEro aarnio said about the Bubble Chair: “After I had made the Ball Chair I wanted to have light inside it and so I had the idea of a transparent ball where light comes from all directions. The only suitable material is acrylic which is heated and blown into shape like a soap bubble. Since I knew that dome-shaped skylights were made in this way I contacted the manufacturer and asked if it would be technically possible to blow a bubble that is bigger than a hemisphere. The answer was yes. So, I had a steel ring made, the bubble was blown and when the cushions were added the chair was ready, and the name was obvious: “bubble.”. The Bubble chair is offered with leather upholstered cushions, 78.7″ chain & hooks and chromed steel ring.

Children are attracted by the bright colors and the uncoventional forms of Eero Aarnio’s designs…. and especially the Pony looks like an overdimensional toy. But it is not a toy Eero Aarnio intended to create with the Pony. The dimensions are conformed to adult size. The Pony shows the play of fantasy which is so characteristic for Eero Aarnio, and in this comfortable seat it might carry you to unknown fields of your own imagination. To quote Eero Aarnio: “A chair is a chair, is a chair… but a seat does not necessarily have to be a chair, it could even be a small and soft Pony on which you can ‘ride’ or sit sideways.”

Beautiful Inspiration Chair Design is The upholstered sections nestle beautifully in the white plastic shell, taking on the slight wedge-shape of the structure. Tapering to the front, they give the chair its light, airy appearance whilst not compromising on comfort. The stitching emphasizes the contours and gives the chair its concise, succinct lines. The inspiration for the shell sprang from a game with a piece of cardboard folded in the shape of a stylised figure. The ‘arms’ only had to be folded forward to create the initial structure of the armchair. With three simple folds, its two-dimensional surface became a three-dimensional form. Torn is like a gentle embrace, supporting areas requiring relaxation, without constriction. Its reduced volumes give it a light appearance – so one can relax in a dainty armchair with matching footstool.” In order to fully appreciate the depth of comfort on offer, the user should make use of the matching footstool.

Gehry likes to use unusual materials for his architecture and furniture. With the series “Easy Edges”, from 1972, he succeeded in lending such everyday materials as cardboard a new aesthetic dimension. Although they appear unbelievably simple “Easy Edges” are constructed with the architect’s care as well as being very robust and stable. Approximately 60 layers of cardboard are held together by hidden screws with a fibreboard edging. Four models from the series – Side Chair, Wiggle Side Chair, Dining Table and Low Table Set – are now being produced by Vitra. The most celebrated architect working today, Frank Gehry has single-handedly changed conventional ideas about architecture. Recent masterpieces include the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Disney Concert hall in Los Angeles. Gehry’s unique vision and innovative use of materials has brought him numerous honors. Through his emphasis on collaboration in the creative process, Gehry continues to transcend the boundaries of design.
